University Sports Complex

           

The Vice-Chancellor heads the Banaras Hindu University Sports Board which supervises the training programme of students needed for various University teams. A number of professionally trained coaches are on its permanent establishment. The Board also has the services of additional coaches from the National Institute of Sports for short duration. The Sports board of the University maintains a Central Sports Ground � the Amphitheatre having facilities for Cricket, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Tennis, Squash, Volleyball etc. as also an Olympic size Swimming pool and an indoor Stadium.  Besides, University Sports Board, the different Institutes/Faculties & Colleges etc. are having their separate sports bodies comprising the Physical Directors and separate Sports grounds with all sports materials. Besides the University runs a mountaineering Centre which conducts training and frequent expeditions. The students under the leadership of teachers have climbed seventeen peaks so far, the highest being 21,000 feet. The Mountaineering students arranged a Motor Cycle expedition during the year 1979 and set up a World record by crossing the highest of 18,300 feet Thong Long La in Leh.
