About the Department

The Department of Museology is established in May 2022 but the discipline/teaching of Museology was introduced as a P.G. diploma in 1968 in Bharat Kala Bhawan (oldest in India). This was later upgraded into M.A. degree in 1979-80. The Department had eminent scholars like; V.S. Agrawal, RaiAanandKrishan, and T.K. Biswas asclose associates.

The faculty members are actively involved in innovative teaching, research and documentation of Intangible Culture Heritage. The syllabus is in conformity with the UGC guidelines as well as the ICOM Curriculum Guidelines for Museum Professional Development (ICGMPD).

Focus is given to cover the wider aspects of thrust areas, such as Museum and Information Technology, Modern Management Theories, Digital Documentation, New Museology, Quality Management, Accreditation, Museum Marketing, Cultural and Natural Heritage, Tourism, Entrepreneurship, etc. to meet the challenges of socio-economic factors that have a strong bearing on Museum Management.

The Department plans to popularize cultural heritage by introducing job oriented short courses on Cultural Heritage.
