Department of General Surgery




Year of establishment: 1962



The Department of General Surgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences was established by the founder Professor K.N. Udupa in 1962. Since then eminent surgeons have glorified this department with their contribution in clinical innovation, and research, and have raised its fame worldwide. Today this department stands tall in the country as well as in the international arena for its patient care, academic training and research activities. It has attracted cream students from the country and abroad for its well structured academic programs and congenial environment so conducive of teaching and learning. Most young surgeons after successfully completing their residency have made this Department and the Institute proud by their achievements nationally and internationally. Presently the department is attached to the University hospital which is a tertiary care center in eastern Uttar Pradesh and provides excellent patient care services and performs various sophisticated surgical procedures.
