The Department of Biochemistry was established as an independent Department in Faculty of Science of Banaras Hindu University in January 1984. The Department has basic infrastructural facilities to meet the requirements for teaching and research in various areas of Biochemistry. The Department conducts two-year (4 semesters) post graduation course leading to M. Sc. (Biochemistry) degree. Sixteen students are admitted to this course every year. The course includes 11 theory papers, 4 practical papers, project work and seminars. Current research activities encompass different areas of biochemistry with major emphasis on clinical biochemistry, infectious diseases and parasitic immunobiology, plant biochemistry and enzyme technology etc. leading to the Ph.
