Area of Specialization:

Our current area of research is enzymology and enzyme technology. In the past decade, urease from watermelon and pumpkin seeds has been isolated, purified upto electrophoretic homogeneity and extensively characterized. The purified urease has also been immobilized in alginate beads and agarose gel and successfully employed for quantitation of blood urea and heavy metals in the aqueous samples.

In addition to urease, we are also working on α-amylase which is also being purified to apparent homogeneity. Work is in progress to explore its possibility for employing it for industrial/analytical applications.
