Area of specialization:

Specialized in the Applied and Experimental Phycology. Significant contribution has been made in the field of Microbial Ecology of Antarctica with particular emphasis on the ecology and physiology of Antarctic algae and cyanobacteria including Nitrogen fixation. Studies on the Terricolous lichens, cyanolichens and influence of macro- scale environmental variables on the diversity and distribution pattern of lichens in Badrinath Valley, Western Himalayas. Studies on Lichens, as indicator of ambient air heavy metal deposition, along land use gradient in an alpine habitat of Western Himalaya, India. Reported various new additions to the lichen flora of Uttrakhand, India.
