Molecular systematics and stress biology of diazotrophs : Currently my research work has aim to study the biology of the most important microorganisms i.e. cyanobacteria, Frankia and Azolla that are intimately associated with the nitrogen economy of the living world and also play an important contribution in environmental management and restoration of soil health. Major focus has been given on the assessment of cyanobacterial richness from unexplored regions using polyphasic approach. Almost sixty species of cyanobacteria have been reported from diverse habitats of Chhattisgarh along with new species. In spite of these we have also the goal to investigate the altered metabolic machineries under abiotic stresses based on proteome, transcriptome and metabolome analysis and also to know the genomics of stress tolerance among cyanobacterial and Azolla-Anabaena symbiotic system as well as in extremophilic Frankia strains nodulating actinorhizal plant (Hippphae. salicifolia) growing along the higher altitude regions of the Eastern Himalayas (Sikkim).
