Area of
Specialization:
Our academic research broadly
covers physico-organic, bioorganic and biophysical chemistry. For last five
years our group research activity is mainly focused on the design and synthesis
of some novel organic, organo-metallic framework and inorganic functional
materials, scaffolds, fluorophores, fluorescent probes, good chromogenic and
fluorogenic chemosensors and biosensors to detect heavy and transition metal
ions, anions and biomolecules like important amino acids, nucleic acids,
protein and carboxylic acids. The optoelectronic behaviors of some of molecules
have been utilized to construct logic devices such as logic gates and molecular
security keypad lock systems. We use different spectroscopic techniques to
characterize and establish the basic mechanisms (reaction as well as
photophysical mechanism such as ICT, PET, FRET, MLCT, EET etc.) These molecules
have also been explored as a fluorescent tag to label biomolecules
(DNA/RNA/Protein) and for noncovalent interaction studies. Synthesis of nucleoside
analogues and covalent attachment of fluorophores with oligonucleotides for
homogeneous hybridization studies in DNA diagnostics and related biophysical
studies. Some heterobifunctional reagents have also been developed to
immobilize biomolecules on the solid surfaces as well as to construct oligonucleotides/protein
microarrays for diagnostic purposes. Under my supervision five Ph.D.
and twelve M.Sc. students have completed their research/project work. Our
research group has contributed good research papers with total citations: 300 (Impact
Factor: 125; H-index: 10)
