Area of Specialization: |
The major research interest in my laboratory is to understand the mechanism and regulation of Notch signaling. The Notch pathway is an evolutionarily conserved signaling system which has been shown to play major role in cell fate determination, differentiation, proliferation and apoptotic events as well as self-renewal processes of different tissues. The same pathway can be deployed in numerous cellular contexts to play varied and critical roles for the development of an organism. The versatility of this pathway to influence different aspects of development comes from its multiple levels of regulation. Not surprisingly therefore, aberrant Notch signaling has been implicated in several human pathologies, including carcinogenesis.
In an attempt to identify novel candidates involved in Notch signaling based on their molecular interaction profile using different genomic and proteomic approaches, we have identified many new interactors which may function in different steps of Notch signaling. At present we are working on functional characterization of a few novel interactors identified in our screens. We are particularly interested to gain insights into the role of those novel components which are involved in trafficking and regulation of Notch signals and in cross-talk between Notch and other signaling pathways. We are also working with a few novel components which display synergistic effects with Notch receptor on Notch-induced cell proliferation.
