1. Autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): My research contribution in SLE initiates from development of a novel disease model and extends to identification, optimization and evaluation of disease processes aimed at amelioration of the disease state in human beings. The salient research outputs have been, elucidation of role of Toll like Receptors in paradigm of diverse clinical manifestations in SLE (Patent, 2013(a)., best oral presentation award, Immunocon 2012). Significant efforts have led to successful characterization of novel markers in SLE using genomic and proteomic approaches. Results of miRNA and global transcriptome sequencing studies have helped provide a strong basis for dintinguishing SLE in 3 distinct subgroups with a potential of impacting treatment modality. Ongoing stem cell studies are focused on evaluating the immuno modulatory role of MSCs in SLE.
2. Defective mechanisms of the innate immunity in low birth weight (LBW) newborns: Transcriptomic and proteomic studies involving newborns have resulted in identification of defective immune pathways responsible for increased susceptibility of LBW newborns towards life threatening infections and mortality (GP Talwar young scientist award, Immunocon 2013). Our observations on impaired Neutrophil Extra trap (NET) formation in LBW newborns (Best oral presentation award, Immunocon 2013) led to development of novel formulation to improve immune efficiency and NET formation (Patent 2013).
3. Stem cell studies to develop better tools for regenerative medicine: HSCs and MSCs based research work.
4. Monoclonal Antibodies (Biosimilars) development.
