Brief writeup on area of specialization/awards/achievements: |

Area of specialization:
Currently work is going on the molecular mechanisms of aging and effects of age and age- associated diseases on learning, memory and cognition. Following are the major projects going on using mouse model:
-
Expression of fragile X mental retardation (Fmr1) gene and its encoded mRNA binding protein called Fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) as a function of age.
- Age and sex dependent differential interaction of transcription factors with upstream promoter sequences of Fmr1 gene
- Differential methylation of CpG island in upstream sequences
- Modulation of Fmr1 gene expression by sex steroid hormones and altering the activity of glutamate receptors.
- Role of Fmr1 gene in learning and memory using amnesic mouse model.
- Molecular mechanisms, behavioral and electrophysiological analysis of synaptic plasticity.
- Molecular mechanism of diabetes mellitus (DM) and Parkinsons disease (PD) altered learning, memory and cognition.
- Role of herbal drugs/preparations in the amelioration of DM and PD induced decline in learning and memory.
