About the JOURNAL

The Banaras Law Journal (Ban LJ), a UGC-CARE Journal and one of the earliest legal journals in India, is a flagship journal published (bi-annually) by the Law School, Banaras Hindu University since 1965. It was started under the dynamic leadership of the then Vice-Chancellor (Justice) N. H. Bhagwati (former Judge, Supreme Court of India) and the then Dean Prof. Anand Jee, a doyen of legal education in post-independent India, to provide a platform to the legal fraternity for expressing their views, ideas, and research outcomes on the contemporary issues of the Law.

The Banaras Law Journal (ISSN: 0522-0815; a UGC Approved Journal- 41269 till 2018) has the distinction of being a premier legal journal due to its wide circulation all over the world through the ‘Journal-Exchange Programme’ with numerous Indian and foreign journals. Articles/Papers; Notes & Comments on the judgments of the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India as well as of the foreign Courts; and Book Reviews are published in the Journal after rigorous scrutiny (Peer- Review) and evaluation by the scholars.

Given the prestige and quality which this journal has acquired over the years since its inception, its articles have been remarkably cited by foreign as well as Indian scholars. Worth mentioning, the articles of the journal have been indexed in the foreign legal periodicals, survey of Commonwealth Law, Index to Indian Legal Periodicals, American Journal of Comparative Law and recognised bibliographies.

The Law School Golden Jubilee issue and the Golden Jubilee issue ofthe Banaras Law Journal were published in 1974 and 2015 respectively. A commemorative special issue of the journal was also published in the year 2012 on the 150^th birth anniversary of the founder of the Banaras Hindu University- Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Ji, who was also the Principal of the Law College, BHU. Another special issue was published in 2016 to mark the Centenary Year of the University.

The Journal is poised to achieve greater heights in terms of quality and relevance in the days to come.
