Reduced water flow

Construction of dams, passing the river through tunnels and hydropower projects on the main stream have obstructed the natural flow.

Diversion of river water & over extraction of ground water have reduced the quantity and flow of river Ganga.

*Changes in chemical composition water and sediments

*Loss of useful minerals & nutrients

*Depletion in dissolved oxygen (DO) content

*Loss of habitats for aquatic animals

*Changes in the composition of flora & fauna

*Loss of biodiversity and microbial activities

The Centenary Year of the Banaras Hindu University, will be observed as Ganga Rejuvenation & Water Conservation Awareness Year 2016-2017.
