Alumni
The alumni of the Department of English have occupied prestigious positions in various academic and administrative organizations. If Prof. G.B. Mohan Thampi served as Vice-Chancellor in Kerala University in deep south, Prof. K.S. Mishra, former chairman, Department of English, University of Sana’a, was appointed Vice-Chancellor at Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, in the north and Prof. R.R. Mehrotra was the Pro Vice-Chancellor in North Eastern Hill University at Shillong. If in the field of politics, its alumnus Sri Deokant Barua rose to the heights of Congress Presidentship, another alumnus, Ram Avadh Pandey superannuated as General Manager, N.E.F.Railways. Some important alumni who have made their mark in administrative services include Ram Bachan Verma (Former Secretary of Education, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh), Deepak Krishna Verma (Former District Magistrate, Almora), Charusheela Sohoni (Former Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India) and K.N. Singh (Joint- Secretary, Ministry of Personnel, Govt. of India).In addition, Prof R.K.Tripathi served as the Vice Chancellor of M.G. kashi Vidyapeeth Varanasi. The old students of the Department have headed several university departments of English in the past –V.K Chari (University of Carleton, Canada), Sudhakar Pandey (University of Pune), D.K. Barua (Burdwan), R.S. Singh (Krukshetra), Raj Nath (Allahabad), B.N. Singh (Itanagar and Lucknow), Sudha P. Pandya (Baroda), G. Rai (Gorakhpur) and R.S Rai (Bilaspur).
This list is fairly large and speaks of the contribution of the Department to higher academics and research.
