Research and Publications
The Department focuses on Indian Writing in English and Postcolonial Literatures as its thrust areas for research and training. Apart from these, a number of courses such as Indian Literatures in Translation, Women’s Writing, and European Literature in Translation etc. are offered at the postgraduate level. Course Work for the doctoral students is calibrated to represent and effectively address theoretical issues associated with reading and interpreting texts in the present. Regular seminars and lectures by eminent academicians add to the vibrancy of the Department.
The Department houses two journals:
- The Journal was started in 1965. Published annually, it is an important contribution to the current academic research in the broad area of English studies.

The Volcano is a student-run journal devoted to creative and critical writings by the students.
