Dr. Ali Mehdi

Specialization - Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, Administrative Law and Company Law

Professor Ali Mehdi did his LL.B. and LL.M. from Law School, BHU and Ph.D. in Law from the University of Delhi. He specializes in Constitutional Law and Environmental Law. He has a teaching experience of more than 28 years and has taught at various universities and delivered lectures in Law Schools including the University of Delhi and the University of North Bengal at Darjeeling.

He has authored two books namely, “Residuary Legislative Powers in India”, 1990, Deep and Deep Publications, New Delhi and “Water Pollution Laws and their Enforcement in India”, 2007, R Cambray & Co Pvt Ltd, Kolkata.

He has participated in 18 international and national conferences, seminars, workshops and attended more than 25 refresher courses as a resource person. His articles have regularly been published in various leading law journals. One of his well-known articles is “Polluter Pays Principle, a Mechanism of Sustainable Development; Indian Experience”, submitted and accepted for publication in book (ed) by ILI, New Delhi.

He is a life-member of the Indian Law Institute (Delhi) as well as of the Society for Clean Environment (Bombay). He is also a member of the Environmental Law Commission, IUCN- Switzerland and former member of the General Council, Dr. Rammanohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow, nominated by the Hon’ble Governor of the State of U.P.

He is the Coordinator, Legal Cell and IPR Cell BHU, Coordinator of the LL.M. (HRDE) programme of BHU and former Executive Director of the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) Law School BHU. He is the former Administrative Warden of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hostel, BHU and the Dr. B.D. Hostel, BHU and has also been Chief Proctor of BHU. He has also been the Head of Department of Law, North Bengal University.
