Dr. Mishra did her B.A. (Sociology Hons.) from Mahila Mahavidhyalaya BHU and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the Department of Social Sciences, BHU. The topic of her Ph.D. thesis was "Female Foeticide in India: Social Perception of Four Women’s Colleges of Varanasi City". She had also qualified for a post-doctoral fellowship from ICSSR, New Delhi for which her topic of research was “Female Foeticide: Astructuration with Technology (A comparative study of urban and rural areas of Varanasi District)”.

She has to her credit 11 research papers published in reputed journals and has participated in 17 national and international seminars.
