Varanasi suffers extremes of weather. A short spell of spring which falls in March-April is followed by a grinding summer. In fact the temperature starts rising in April but the hottest days are in May and early June with the mercury ranging between 42�C and 46�C. Around mid-June, the monsoon sets in and the rains continue till October. The average rainfall here is 11.1 cm. Varanasi shivers through December and January when the minimum temperature ranges between 4�C and 7�C. Winter months are mostly dry, with cold winds.
