The life in Varanasi starts early in the morning and goes on till late in the night. The shops open early and close late. Life on the banks of the Ganga begins in pre-dawn darkness - pilgrims, men, women and children come, bathe in the river and squat on the numerous ghats, facing the rising sun and pray with folded hands. Varanasi is singularly free from worry and care. The men wear traditional dhoti and the women, saree. They prefer simple living and spend their time in prayer and meditation.
