Varanasi's spiritual quality and aura of mysticism are, however, only one part of the fabric of this 'eternal city'. There are here distinct cultural commercial strands besides the religious. The Banaras Hindu University, the Sanskrit College - Varanasi's second university - hundreds of smaller schools which instruct pupils in music, Sanskrit and Theology and the Bharat Kala Bhavan, a famed repository of art and antiquarian treasures, all make Varanasi a renowned centre of art, culture and learning. People from all over India and many other parts of the world come here to study and meditate, to do research and pray, to marvel at an ancient culture and shop in an atmosphere century old.
