Chronology

(1861-1946)

  • 1861 – Born in Prayag (Allahabad) to Pt. BrijNath and Moona Devi on 25 December.

  • 1878 – Married to Kundan Devi of Mirzapur.

  • 1880 – Worked for the newly founded Hindu Samaj in Prayag along with studies at College.

  • 1884 – Graduated from Calcutta University

    • Appointed teacher in Allahabad District School on a monthly salary of Rupees forty in July.

    • Worked actively for newly established "Hindi Uddhaini Pratinidhi Sabha".

  • 1885 – Assisted his teacher Pt. Aditya Ram Bhattacharya in editing the English Weekly "Indian Union".

    • 1886 – Attended the 2nd Session 0f Indian National Congress under the Chairmanship of Dada Bhai

      • Nauroji held at Calcutta in December and gave a rousing speech on the issue of Indian Representation in the Council. This speech brought him to the limelight of Congress.

    • 1887 – Quit teaching and became the editor of "Hindosthan" at the invitation of Raja of Kalakanker in

      • July.

      • Participated in the first convention of "Bharat Dharma Mahamandal" and remained actively

      • associated with it for 15 years.

      • Participated in the Madras Session of Congress in December and was appointed the Secretary

      • of the Political Association and working committee of his province.

    • 1889 – 'Bharati Bhawan' Library established in Prayag largely due to his efforts.

      • Left "Hindosthan" and started working as the co-editor of English daily"Indian Opinion".

      • Took admission in law at Prayag.

    • 1891 – Finished his L.L.B. and started law practice at Allahabad District Court.

    • 1893 – Started practicing law in Allahabad High Court in December.
